Side Quest - Mushroom Rock Road

[Fiends on Mushroom Rock]
[Monsters have been popping up on Mushroom Rock Road, and the Youth Alliance needs help defending their HQ as they get ready to start a large-scale operation!]

*Yuna and co. approach Mushroom Rock Road and Uno and Sano*

Rikku: Hey! Look who's here!

Paine: They're probably after a sphere.

Yuna: We should check around here later.

*They reach the entrance*

????: Hello again, Lady Yuna!

????: You... do remember me, don't you?
- I don't believe so
*- Yaebal, from the Youth Alliance

Yuna: Of course I do! Yaebal, right?

Yaebal: You didn't forget me after all! I'm touched, Lady Yuna.

Yaebal: We have been looking for spheres as well, ever since we met you.

Yaebal: We, the Youth Alliance...

Yaebal: Err... take it, Clasko.

Clasko: The Youth Alliance continues its mission...

Clasko: To study the history of Spira, in its many ruins and precious spheres.

Rikku: Oh yeah! Those two guys just a second ago!

Paine: Did two of LeBlanc's gang just come through here?

Yaebal: Yes, hmm... they might be here to cause us trouble.

Yaebal: But we're just so shorthanded here, getting ready for our big operation and all.

Yaebal: Even if you wanted to get to our headquarters, you'd be taking on fiends all the way.

Yaebal: It's really going to get dangerous unless we send someone to clear some of them out...

Yaebal: Could you get rid of some fiends for us?
- Take up the task
- Decline

Yaebal: Good, thank you!

Yaebal: There will be fiends all the way to the elevator leading to our base.

Yaebal: But feel free to take a look at our HQ while you're there!

Yaebal: And please, Lady Yuna, be careful!

Yaebal: Clasko! Show them the way.

Clasko: Ah... yes sir! This way, please.

Rikku: Okaay! Mission time!

** Mission Start! **

[Mushroom Rock Fiend Extermination]
[Since the Youth Alliance's defenses are shorthanded, help out by clearing out some of the fiends. Watch out for more monsters when the fog gets thicker!
Clear Conditions: Reach the Youth Alliance HQ elevator]

*The trio heads into Mushroom Rock and follows Uno and Sano into the crevice. Eventually they track them to a cave*

Uno: Argh, more crap!

Sano: This one's junk too.

Yuna: What are up to now?

Uno: Let's get outta here!

Sano: Time to report to LeBlanc!

Rikku: Hey! They dropped one!

Yuna: Alright!

[Got Key Item [Akagi Sphere 9]!]

*On their way out...*

????: Oh hey, longtime no see. Remember me?
- Um... sorry!
*- Of course!

Maroda: I glad.

Yuna: How have you been?

Maroda: Well since Sin's defeat, I've been really busy with the Youth Alliance.

Yuna: I've been a Sphere Hunter lately

Maroda: Oh I see, time for a change of pace

Maroda: Pacce is a Sphere Hunter too, actually

Maroda: He's the leader of the Kidwings. Tell him hi for me, if you see him.

Yuna: And Isaaru?

Maroda: The Youth Alliance found this Sealed Cave no long ago.

Maroda: It must've been sealed back with Operation Mi'ihen.

Yuna: What about Isaaru?

Maroda: It probably needs several more spheres to unlock it, I think.

Yuna: Um... what about...

Maroda: We can't have people in here while we're still investigating it.

Maroda: So... I mean, you'll have to go.


*Yuna and co proceed to the elevator at the end*

????: Lady Yuna!!

Elma: It's me, Elma. Wow, you're looking good!

Yuna: How have you been doing?

Elma: Oh just great! Hard at work with the Youth Alliance, as you can see

Elma: Good job getting here. Job well done!

Elma: Let them pass by

Troops: Aye aye, Captain Elma!

Elma: There ya go...

Yuna: Keep em in line, okay?

Elma: Best I can, yep!

** Mission Complete! **


*They take the elevator up and head out onto the ridge*

(Yuna)
"This was the Youth Alliance's base."
"The Alliance was formed one year ago, to oppose the New Yevon party."
"They said, if left to New Yevon, Spira would soon go back to the way things were."
"Their leader is a man named Nooj, a popular former Crusader..."


*Yuna speaks with the woman at the entrance*

????:It's nice to see you, Lady Yuna

Lucil: I'm Lucil, Youth Alliance commander.

Yuna: It's good to see you too, Lucil.

Rikku: Yeah!

Lucil: You're looking well, Yuna.

Lucil: As you can see I am in the Youth Alliance, still fighting for a new Spira.

Lucil: I'm sure our leader, Nooj, would want to speak to you as well

Lucil: But we have been readying for a big operation, and he will likely be occupied all evening.

Lucil: I'm sorry, but you will have to wait until tomorrow to see him.

Yuna: Oh, that's okay.

Lucil: My apologies.

Rikku: So, the Youth Alliance looks for sphere too, don't they?

Lucil: Nooj tells us we must research our past for the sake of the future.

Lucil: So we have been collecting historical spheres for study, yes.

Lucil: This new operation also deals with spheres, but--

Lucil: Excuse me, any other information on this matter is top secret.

Paine: Oh, I see.

Lucil: I'm sorry.


*Yuna speaks to Lucil again*

Rikku: You know, some the people here are kinda...

Lucil: Well, the Youth Alliance is not very organized, so we get all kinds.

Lucil: Just the other day, an important sphere we had just recovered was stolen.

Rikku: Thieves too!?

Lucil: No, sadly there are always a few questionable ones.

Lucil: Most everyone is really working towards Nooj's vision of a new Spira.

Lucil: But he also strongly believes that no one should be turned away, so...

Lucil: It's a difficult predicament.

Lucil: If you were to join the Youth Alliance too, I think you would agree.


*During the 2nd time through, Maechen approaches, and Yuna speaks to him when he sits down*

Maechen: Why, it's been two years since last we met, Lady Yuna...

Maechen: Would you care to hear a tale?
- Perhaps another time
- Yes, please.

Maechen: Indeed... these two years have been clamorous.

Maechen: The defeat of Sin by your hands, the revelation of Yevon's trickery exposed...


Maechen: These you accomplished despite much adversity throughout Spira.

Maechen: Thankfully, your efforts have not been in vain.

Maechen: As you can see, the desire to rebuild Spira has taken hold in the people.

Maechen: And from that, a longing for the truth has risen.

Maechen: It is the truth of Spira's past, veiled and twisted by the temples, that they seek.

Maechen: Through the past, they are searching for guidance into the future.

Maechen: Ancient spheres buried throughout the world, there begins their search for the truth.

Maechen: By deciphering their contents in detail, they hope to understand what little they can about their past.

Maechen: As more and more people have begun chasing after spheres, a new breed of professionals has evolved.

Maechen: Yes, the Sphere Hunters. They come in all shapes and sizes...

Maechen: But they are mostly young and adventurous, fearless in their pursuit.

Maechen: They claim to be searching for the truth about Spira, but I wonder if they even have faintest idea of what they speak.

Yuna: You don't think so...?

Maechen: Of course not! How could they?

Maechen: Moving on, however...

Maechen: The origin of this search for the truth was a man named Trema, supposedly a former temple priest.

Maechen: He was able to stir much fervor and energetic vigor into the people. Oh, my, but then...

Maechen: One year ago, without warning, Trema went out and founded the New Yevon party.

Maechen: Under New Yevon he began hoarding the spheres, gathered from around Spira to find the truth.

Maechen: Naturally, this was an affront to all the others also searching.

Maechen: I would certainly like to meet with Trema, to try and understand his change of heart.

Maechen: But now he seems to have disappeared.

Maechen: New Yevon may have monopolized the spheres, but they have also found a surprising amount of support.

Maechen: Thanks in large part to their motto, "Compassionate Reconstruction"

Maechen: This policy appealed to many people unsettled by the sudden changes in recent years.

Maechen: However, there are also those who still do not trust the name Yevon.

Maechen: It was Nooj, now leader of the Youth Alliance, that brought this opposition together.

Maechen: Once in the Crusaders, his valiance in battle earned him many admirers.

Maechen: But it was his love of history that drew him into this search for truth.

Maechen: He began the hunt for spheres... but found himself stymied by New Yevon.

Maechen: So he banded together with others opposed to Yevon's tactics, and thus the Youth Alliance was born.

Maechen: Composed mostly of other youths, now the Alliance stands in defiance of New Yevon.

Maechen: But just as the Alliance grows, so too do Nooj's responsibilities.

Maechen: I had tried to speak with him today, but was told he is occupied and cannot see anyone.

Maechen: How unfortunate...

Maechen: Truly I envy the vitality I see gathered in the Youth Alliance.

Maechen: They are still young, with all the time in the world...

Maechan: While I, on the other hand, have grown weary in my old age.

Maechen: I have spent my life learning all there is to know about Spira, only to watch it fade away into memory.

Maechen: At my age, this conversation may be all I remember.

Maechen: Oh yes, may I ask a favor of you?

Yuna: Yes, what is it?

Maechen: If it would not be too much trouble... might I shake your hand?

Maechen: It would be an honor to touch the hand that defeated Sin and saved Spira.
- Sorry.
*- Certainly.

Maechen: Thank you so much. Such a nice gift to take with me to the Farplane.

Yuna: But...

Maechen: Oh, what is this...?

Yuna: Is something the matter?
