Archived Updates

Okay, got that other Active Link up, finishing up all that stuff in LeBlanc's hideout.  Forecast for the rest of the weekend, we should definitely see our weekly gameplay update, as well as hopefully a little more dialogue.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone interested in me putting some priority on the Result Plate section?  I intend to get around to it, just for completeness sake, but I have a feeling people would rather see more dialogue and dress sphere updates.  What do you think?

Gosh, people, yeah I know, I still run this site.  And we're still updating!

Tonight's update was supposed to be simple, and active link here, maybe a sidequest there...  Until I went through it and discovered that Active Link upon returning to the airship ACTUALLY entailed about two active links and three side quests (1, 2, and 3).  Tonight's update was also supposed to be a little bigger (including the second active link mentioned), but sleep is overcoming me at this point, and it will be put up shortly tomorrow.

I apologize for recent delays, but onward we press.

Couple quick side quests up tonight, one about some musicians in Macalania, and a fun little minigame on Besaid.  It's late, I've got school tomorrow, but we're back rolling again!

Sorry guys, Soul Calibur II came out and I didn't realize its alluring siren song until it was too late!  Tonight's update will consist of the promised weekend gameplay update, with regular dialogue updates to resume tomorrow.  Until then, enjoy a more or less complete list of accessories for our ladies.  If you notice any missing, please let me know!

Also, I've come to a tentative decision regarding what to translate and what-not.  I know there are people who would like me to translate every side quest before moving on, and frankly I'd like to as well.  But I realize other people are just twiddling their thumbs, waiting for the story to move on.  So here's what I think I'm going to do: I will translate a couple side quests and all active links in each Story Level, then after the main dialogue is taken care of, quickly go back through and pick up missing side quests.  In the end, what you'll have is a complete translation, just not entirely in chronological order =)  Sound good?

Time for tonight's update!  Normal length, but only half the fun!

Actually we put up three new, completed sections tonight, the Intro to Story Level 2, and the two parts of a branching story (Youth Alliance and New Yevon).  Personally, I think from reading both that they wanted you to go with Youth Alliance, but I rather like Baralai better.  The branches meet back up again quickly, however, but I'm a little worried.
If anyone knows how or if your choice here affects future events, please let me know!  Since it may not affect things until down the road, I may not even realize it until it's too late.

Some people have asked me if I will translate a couple other things from Story Level 1, especially some non-Active Link, non-Sidequest stuff.  On this point I'm a little ambivalent.  I can go back and catch every minor thing, but I also think people are waiting impatiently for me to get moving, so I tend to want to move forward.  Whenever the main dialogue is done, though, anything is open to be done, that's for sure.  Anyone have any opinions on this?

Oh, and I've begun translating my Al Bhed now, thanks to a little converter I found.  Soooometime I'll go back and correct the earlier instances, but it's not a top priority.

Lastly, what the heck is up with this?!  I still liked Seagullers better!

As you might notice, things are a little redone around here.  We've cleaned up the menus and organized it a bit more appropriately for the game, based on Story Levels and Active Links, Side Quests, etc.

Unfortunately one potential problem is that somebody made a mistake in all this.  So if you find an erroneous link or something missing, please let me know ASAP!  All the changes were made to the dialogue section, so gameplay should still function as usual.

Speaking of dialogue, we finished Story Level 1 tonight!  I know, it's not the biggest update in the world, but a good amount of time was spent reassembling the dialogue section.  Hey, though, don't get down!  We get Climbing Monkeys tonight!  And Wooden Monkeys!  Don't know what I'm talking about??  Maybe you should take a look at this latest update! ;-)

Not too bad tonight.  We covered the Zanarkand Ruins sphere hunting, and I've scouted ahead a little into what's coming.  I'll hopefully have a little more time tomorrow, so we'll likely bid farewell to Story Level 1, and I'll probably be redesigning the dialogue organization to accomodate.

Oh, they're Hypello now, not Highpello anymore.

It was Hypello.

I know, I know, what'dya mean just sidequests tonight!

Well, I told you, sidequests make up a large part of the game, and tonight's update adds 3 more. The first is a trip to see the new people on Mushroom Rock.  The second, a shorter one, finds the trio of ladies helping out a Highpello trader (was that tribe name in FFX??), and the third covers a couple things you can do early on in Macalania forest.

Also, our lady Seagullers are henceforth known as the Gullwings, and I've changed all previous instances to reflect that.

Both dialogue and gameplay updates tonight, though I intend to concentrate on dialogue in the coming days.

I think the way I'm going to do things is gameplay updates (in addition to dialogue) on the weekends, and dialogue throughout the week.  Things are beginning to get down to a routine finally, so it will only go faster from here, but unfortunately, as I said before, school could hurt things too.  So who knows!  I hope I'm not going TOO slowly.

Tonight's dialogue is the Besaid Island mission.  Lots of good stuff about Yuna and Wakka (geez, he likes to talk, doesn't he) in this one.  The gameplay update has been a couple days in the making -- the first entry into the menu screens section!  Basically, rather than just read off to you "Well, this screen has Item, Equipment" etc., we've actually added English text to screenshots of the menus!  Can be quite handy!  I'm planning to put the layout of the airship in as well, but if you have any specific requests for translated pics, let me know.

Apologies for a lighter update tonight... Today was busier than usual, but moral for the project is high!

Tonight's offering finishes up chapter 1, and branches into a slight organizational change I'm enacting.  Though I haven't yet venture far enough yet, I have it on good authority that this game has these things called "sidequests", which apparently in FFX-2 lingo mean "like 3/4 of the whole frickin' game!"  So rather than make readers sift through reams of text for the particular sidequest they feel like tackling, I'm going to to use the game's own natural organization and give each sidequest its own link.  It makes a little sense, doesn't it?  And without further ado, I present our first sidequest, Concert Confessions!

I've got a million gameplay updates I'd like to do, so I'll try to balance dialogue and gameplay in the next few days.  Spring Break ends this weekend, and I'm not entirely sure what's going to happen when the girls of FFX-2 face off with the professors of University of Oklahoma :-P

Our first 10 pages of dialogue tonight, well as a bunch of info in the dress sphere section.  We're already hard at work on another update after this (kinda), so this won't be a lengthy post.  Besides, I'm tired =)

Time for our first content update, coming in early this morning to the gameplay section.  Specifically, some introductory names and places have been added, as well as a fairly complete (and long!) list of item translations.

As I had anticipated, the new method of producing the gameplay section is speeding things up immensely -- it might actually be worthwhile this time! ;-)  Tomorrow sometime look for our first dialogue update, and perhaps some more gameplay info, if I happen to get done early.

Oh, it's mentioned in the Contact Us page (duh), but let me encourage anyone and everyone to say Hi, give suggestions, comments, corrections etc.  The new email address for this site is ffx2trans@hotmail.com, so don't be shy!

Welcome to the Unofficial FFX-2 Translation!

We're still getting set up around here, so things might be a little dusty.  A couple links might not work, and content isn't overflowing yet, but the framework is in place, we've got our copies of the game, and hopefully this update shouldn't be the most recent for very long.

In the meantime, let me give a brief explanation of what's new (and what's old) on this site.  If you visited the FFX translation, you'll recognize the dialogue and gameplay sections.  That worked, so we'll stay with that kind of organization.  We have, however, taken a couple steps to make production of the site more efficient.  Firstly, the color scheme has been changed so that a separate Printer-Friendly Version is no longer necessary.  Also, a problem that plagued the gameplay section was the use of images for the Japanese text.  In this day and age, Japanese text support for web browsers is pretty common, so we are going to switch to that, which will clean up organization and make production of those pages about 10x easier.

Once again, welcome to the site.  If time permits, things may get a more significant overhaul, but it's the content you're here for, right?  All that said, hold on tight and let's go back to Spira!
